Kids and Family

The Muslim American identity is being tried and tested every day, but we believe what we teach young people in our center must be connected to what is taught at home. Through our Kids’ and Family Department, we aspire to plant the seeds of iman early and cultivate strong family bonds by creating programs catered to four different areas: children, pre-teens, parents, and the family unit.

Karate

  • Our Youth Karate Program has been a staple at the MYC for the last 15 years. Teaching vital skills such as self-defense, self-esteem, and discipline, karate is an exciting way to ensure youth are staying active. It leads to better focus and improved grades and ensures that young people can defend themselves if ever the time comes (God forbid!).

The class is taught by karate veteran Sensei Yasser Salama, who is a 6th degree black belt and a certified karate instructor with over 40 years’ experience.

For youth ages 4-16; 100/per month.

Summer Day Program

  • Our annual Kids Summer Day Program invites young people ages 4-12 to join us for 6-8 weeks of fun at the MAS Youth Center! The program includes weekly trips, sports, social-emotional learning, skills development, and even Quran & Islamic Studies! We sell out just about every year, so be sure to sign up once registration launches before the summer!

Tutoring

  • As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, young students have fallen behind in their learning, social skills, and academic progress, which can result in development delays, mental health deterioration, and detrimental long-term effects. Due to this reason, we’ve curated a special kids tutoring program that pairs intelligent tutors with kids seeking academic assistance through one-on-one in-person and/or virtual sessions. This also includes specialized testing tutoring for state-wide exams and SATs. Not only does this provide valuable academic assistance to youth who need it, but also provides employment opportunities for mature and eligible youth tutors looking for part-time jobs!

Monthly Movie Nights

  • Our Kids & Family department hosts monthly movie nights – with a twist. We choose kid-friendly and Islamically appropriate movies with powerful messages to introduce conversations around important topics, such as mental health, friendship, and more. The program often includes delicious snacks, crafty, activities, and discussion circles. Not only do these movie nights teach kids important life lessons, but also valuable life skills such as socialization, empathy, and critical thinking.

Family Together

  • Our Family Together Program creates events and activities for the entire family, aiming to strengthen the family bond and create fun, faith-based memories for all. These events may include mother-daughter brunches, father-son soccer watch parties, family BBQs and fishing trips, and more!

Annual Hajj Workshop

  • Our Annual Hajj Workshop recreates the routines and scenes of the Hajj Pilgrimage every year during Hajj season, right here at the MAS Youth Center! Youth are encouraged to dress as if they are actually embarking on a spiritual journey with Ihram attire, and we transform our hall space into a replica of the holiest cities of Mecca and Madinah.

The Future of Our Ummah

By incorporating Islamic values in our various kids’ programs, such as story nights, game days, and sports days, we hope to create a friendly and engaging environment for Muslim children that will ignite their love for Allah and His messenger and guide them as they grow
